Rebate Guide — Texas
Texas greywater rebates are concentrated in Austin, which has one of the most generous and well-run rebate programs in the country. Other major Texas cities (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio) do not currently have active greywater rebate programs as of 2025. Texas also has no state-level tax credit for greywater systems.

Most Texas programs require pre-installation registration or approval. Do not purchase materials until you've confirmed program requirements with your utility.
In many cases you can stack multiple incentives — for example, a local utility rebate AND a state tax credit (where available). Apply to all programs you qualify for simultaneously.
Austin operates under Texas state law (HSC §341.039), which does not require a state permit for systems under 400 gpd meeting the nine conditions. Austin Water's rebate program includes voluntary registration — this is the "permit" equivalent in Austin, but it's for the rebate, not a legal requirement for the system itself. You can install a legal greywater system in Austin without registering, but you must register to get the rebate.
Houston does not have a city greywater rebate program. If you're served by one of the many municipal utility districts (MUDs) in the Houston metro, check with your MUD directly — a small number run their own conservation incentive programs. Otherwise, the primary incentive in Houston is the water savings itself.
Neither Dallas Water Utilities nor Fort Worth Water offer greywater-specific rebates as of 2025. Both utilities have general conservation rebate programs (primarily for high-efficiency fixtures and irrigation equipment) — check their websites for any greywater additions. The state no-permit exemption still applies in DFW, making installation cost-free from a permitting standpoint.
