Rebate Guide — California
California has the most diverse greywater rebate landscape of any state — driven by severe drought pressure and a decentralized water utility structure where hundreds of retail water agencies operate their own conservation programs. The programs below represent the most widely available. Your specific utility may have additional programs not listed here.

Most California programs require pre-installation registration or approval. Do not purchase materials until you've confirmed program requirements with your utility.
In many cases you can stack multiple incentives — for example, a local utility rebate AND a state tax credit (where available). Apply to all programs you qualify for simultaneously.
California does not have a state income tax credit for greywater systems (unlike Arizona). However, utility rebates from your water agency are available and do not conflict with any other program. Apply for your utility's rebate and check whether your district has any additional conservation incentives.
East Bay MUD consistently offers the most structured program with the highest rebates ($150–$250) and the clearest application process. If you're in the EBMUD service area, start there. Outside EBMUD, Marin Municipal and LADWP have the next most established programs.
Typically: utility account number, dated itemized receipts for all materials, installation photos (address number visible, valve with label, at least one mulch basin), and the completed rebate application form from your utility. Some utilities also require a brief system description.
